BIOGRAPHY

Ben studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and Trinity Laban Conservatoire where he was a Gladys Bratton Scholar.

 

He was awarded his FRSM in Cello Performance in 2025 and an ATCL Diploma in Piano Performance in 2017.

He has performed both solo and chamber music at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Smith Square Hall, Holywell Music Room Oxford, the Romanian Embassy and Brighton Dome.

 

In 2013 Ben played alongside the Aurora Orchestra under Nicholas Collon in the innovative youth opera Imago by Orlando Gough which was premiered at Glyndebourne.

He performed on Radio Punct to raise funds for the Romanian Red Army in the ongoing Ukraine conflict. In 2015 Ben played at the Royal Albert Hall Verdi Italian Restaurant lunchtime concert series and in the Brighton Fringe festival in 2021 and 2022. Recent projects include touring with the Different Theatre company in the new musical Clean! which recieved acclaimed reviews.

Collaborating with musicians including Vladimir Ashkenazy and Oxana Shevchenko, he has played in numerous orchestras including the Hornton Chamber Orchestra and was Prinicipal Cellist at Sinfonia Diverse, performing music ranging from Mozart to anime soundtracks and pop. He has given talks and performed solo repertoire for radio broadcasts and has participated in recording and studio work for various artists and composers.​

Ben was a prizewinner in the 2019 Vera Kantrovich Solo Bach Competition and won 1st prize in both the 2016 and 2017 Pro Corda National Chamber Music Competitions, and has participated in masterclasses with cellists such as Guy Johnston, Hannah Roberts, Alexander Boyarsky, Tim Lowe and Zoe Martlew.

A freelance musician, Ben regularly performs in concerts and styles of a wide variety of genres and events including weddings, private parties, business conferences, church services and funerals. He has taught in and co-led music and rhythm workshops in various schools.​​​​​ He currently co-organises and plays in concerts to promote classical music and raise money for the Ouse Valley churches.

 

He is also a freelance photographer and stock media creator, producing digital photography, video editing and filming for various artists, music festivals, music/theatre production reviews and magazines.

​

Ben plays a French cello made by Yan Besson in 2020.
